The “D” is lowered at midnight in Beacon Park in downtown Detroit at this free and family-friendly celebration. The festival, expected to draw thousands, includes local entertainment on two stages, fire pits, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Kids will enjoy their own mini drop earlier in the evening, along with games and activities. Food is available from a host of local restaurants, vendors, and food trucks. This party starts at 4 p.m. and lasts until 1 a.m.
Or do this up brown in at the Motown Countdown in the Grand Celebration Party Pavilion, just beneath the "D" Drop. Its huge dance floor, fully stocked bar, and live music on the main stage will keep you entertained all night in full view of the party outside, and you'll have a ringside seat for the drop at midnight. The Motown Countdown starts at 8 p.m. and rocks until 1 a.m. Tickets are $135 apiece.
